It just amazes me how plants here in the Sonoran Desert can gain a foothold
anywhere. These pictures are of a barrel cactus growing out of solid rock.
Taken during a mid-day hike.
Shortly before sunset on a separate day.
Yep, that's the moon in the background.

I can't get a "true" size on the cactus in my mind. It looks monstrous, but that could just be a "trick of the eye".
ReplyDeleteMaybe a person standing next to it would help.
My son and I were just talking about cactus the other day and how much water they hold. We will be in desert areas in May and I am REALLY looking forward to seeing scenes like yours and getting into some warm weather ;-)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! I'm jealous. I love deserts!
ReplyDeleteI almost took identical photos the other day on Silly Mountain. I wondered the same, how DO they do that??
ReplyDeleteWow! Mother Nature is amazing what way. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteA tiny little crack is all they need I guess, but how beautiful! Nice photos!
